Green Party District Councillor Joanna Carter launches petition and demonstration to save the Lewes Skatehouse. Jo says:
"Please sign and share the new petition and come along to the District Council meeting next Thurs 25th Feb!
The Skatehouse is being turfed out of its home on the Phoenix / North Street Estate, along with all the other community facilities and arts businesses that we fought to save, to make way for the District Council and Santon's bland North Street development.
Join the demonstration on Thursday to tell the District Council to find a new home for the Skatehouse in Lewes!
Meet 12:30 at the Skatehouse, or 1:15pm at County Hall, in time for the 2pm District Council meeting.
Over 250 kids and teenagers enjoy this fabulous indoor place to skate and scoot every week. On top of being somewhere to have fun, get some exercise, and learn new skills, it's also a safe space to hang-out.
Teenagers in Lewes don't have many places to go; this is one of 3 fabulous youth facilities that are all threatened by the North Street development. We think the District Council should be working to find a new home for all these great community places that they are making homeless. This Thursday is the District Council budget meeting, and I am asking that they allocate some money to invest in places for Lewes children and teenagers to go, and work with the three youth facilties on North Street to relocate them elsewhere in Lewes. Come and tell the District Council what you think!
Thanks for your support.
