Campaigners protecting our countryside from Government plans to build over our fields and villages have done an amazing job to raise awareness of the plans to build in East Chiltington but also in many other places in our villages. The campaign group Don’t Urbanise the Downs have run drop in sessions for local residents across the area highlighting the need for public resistance to the Government's plans.
Zoe Nicholson says “I attended the fabulous drop in session in Cooksbridge and a meeting hosted by East Chiltington Parish council, and at that meeting, I said I would be ensuring that Lewes District Council uses every tool and means we have to fight the Government on their planning rules that mean that developers like Eton College get to threaten our countryside and beautiful villages. We have heard that the Government has got scared and is rethinking its planning reform bill but they haven’t walked away from their housing target system that drives councils to produce local plans that have to demonstrate we can’t meet their housing target per year. We need to keep up the fight against the Government build build build agenda. Please send a letter to Michael Gove to let him know you think his housing policies don't protect our countryside and don't give people the affordable homes they need to live in".
